SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Japanese cracker operators Sanyo Petrochemical and Tosoh will restart their crackers in mid-April after shutting down the units in mid-March for turnarounds, company sources said on Thursday.
The shutdowns marked the start of heavy turnaround period in Japan where as many as nine crackers are scheduled to shut this year.
Sanyo shut its 470,000 tonne/year cracker in Mizushima on 13 March for a scheduled turnaround which was expected to end on 10 April.
Tosoh, on the other hand, planned for a 40-day turnaround from 10 March to 18 April, for its 527,000 tonne/year cracker in Yokkaichi.
Given the current market situation for naphtha, most companies were looking forward to the maintenance shutdown of their crackers, producers said.
Mitsubishi Chemical’s fire-hit Kashima No 2 cracker will also be shut down from 2 July to 15 August for a maintenance shutdown.
