SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Mitsui Chemicals will further expand its Lucant performance material businesses by ramping up its production capacities, the Japanese chemicals firm said in a statement on Thursday.

The chemical producer doubled its Lucant ethylene/á olefin olygomer production capacity to 11,000 tonnes/year from 5,000 tonnes/year at its Iwakuni-Ohtake site in western Japan when its second plant came on-stream in February 2008.

Lucant, a derivative of ethylene and propylene, is used as a compounding agent for lubricants in automobiles.

The product was said to improve the fuel efficiency of vehicles by lowering the viscosity of lubricants, thus reducing overall carbon dioxide emissions.
