DUBAI (ICIS news)--A fire hit Kuwait-based Equate Petrochemical Co's Olefins II Project under construction in the Al-Shuaiba Industrial Area on Thursday, the company said in a statement.
The fire, which was fully extinguished, did not cause any casualties, a company source said.
"The accident's technical causes have not yet been determined and a report regarding this matter is being prepared," he added.
The Kuwaiti energy sector and petrochemical industry have witnessed a series of accidents in recent years.
Olefins II will include an 850,000 tonne/year ethane cracker and a 600,000 tonne/year ethylene oxide/ethylene glycol plant, both to be operated by The Kuwait Olefins Co. It would also expand a 600,000 tonne/year polyethylene plant by 225,000 tonnes/year.
