HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US exports of acetic acid in March totalled 82,648 tonnes, down 9% from 91,062 tonnes a year earlier, according to data from the US International Trade Commission (ITC) released on Friday.
March exports were down 14% from 96,435 tonnes in February this year, the ITC said. Mexico, Belgium, Brazil and Spain were the top four export destinations, accounting for a collective 68,772 tonnes - or more than 83% of total shipments.
US acetic acid exports have declined by 1.5% in the first three months this year due to sluggish demand stemming from softness in the US economy, according to market sources.
US Gulf coast export prices were $750-$950/tonne over the past month, according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.
Major US acetic acid producers include BP, Celanese and Eastman Chemical.
