Equate signs agreement for CO2 capture and supply

DUBAI (ICIS news)--Kuwait's Equate Petrochemical Co has signed an agreement with Al-Nafisi International Co to supply captured carbon dioxide (CO2) from one of its facilities by the first quarter of 2010.

Equate was not available for comment on Thursday on which units would supply the CO2.

This was the first CO2 gas utilisation project in the region and is aimed at promoting reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emission initiatives, it added in a statement on its website.

Al-Nafisi would use the CO2 for a number of business applications and environmental initiatives, which would help reduce emissions locally, it said.

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is gaining ground across the world as an important means to reduce GHG emissions.

Equate produced more than 1m tonnes of polyethylene (PE) and monoethylene glycol (MEG) in 2007.
