Strike continues at PotashCorp, talks stalled

HOUSTON (ICIS news)--No meetings are scheduled between Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan (PotashCorp) and striking miners at three of the company’s plants, both sides of the dispute said early Tuesday.

Production has been stopped at PotashCorp’s 2m tonne/year plant in Allan and 800,000 tonne/year plant in Cory because of the labour dispute.

Members of the United Steelworkers union are also picketing outside a smaller 300,000 tonne/year plant in Patience Lake, which is scheduled to come back online on 4 October.

The work stoppage began last Thursday after mediation regarding higher wages broke down between PotashCorp and about 500 of its employees at the three plants, which are all located in Canada’s Saskatchewan province.
