US biodiesel group proposes industry standards

HOUSTON (ICIS news)--The US Sustainable Biodiesel Alliance (SBA) has proposed industry standards for biodiesel production, hoping to set “best practices” for the fledgling industry, the group said on Thursday.
The Austin, Texas, non-profit organisation’s baseline practices of sustainability, posted on the group’s website for public comment, offer guidance for feedstock procurement, air emissions, pricing structures and other production issues.
“As the policy and science come around in the industry, policy is still a little ahead of science,” said association executive director Jeff Plowman. "We wanted to establish some baselines."
SBA will present the finished document on 17 September at the Sustainable Biodiesel Stakeholders Summit, to be held in tandem with the Texas Biofuels Conference and Expo.
