CNOOC plans new base oils production facility

GUANGZHOU (ICIS news)--Refiner China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC) will start up a new group II/III base oils production facility in southern China by early 2010, said a company official on Friday.

 

The 400,000 tonne/year plant, being built with Chevron technology had just completed the initial design phase, said the company's manager Li Shengquan at the China Base Oils & Lubricants Summit here.

 

The plant would produce three grades of base oils - 200,000 tonnes/year of 220N (220 neutral), 140,000 tonnes/year of 100N and the rest would be 60N, Li added.

 

The main base oils producers in China include state-owned Petrochina and Sinopec.

 

Petrochina has a combined base oils capacity of 2.9m tonnes/year. Sinopec has a total base oils capacity of 1.58m tonnes/year, while CNOOC has an existing capacity to produce around 300,000 tonnes/year.

 

The conference runs from 4-5 September and is organised by ICIS and Chemease.
