HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Terra’s 500,000 tonne/year ammonia plant in Donaldsonville, Louisiana, has resumed production, two months later than the company originally planned, a source close to the operation said on Tuesday.

The plant resumed production on 22 September, the source said.

After originally mothballing the plant in December 2004 because of high natural gas prices, Terra decided to reopen the facility as tightening of the global food markets has placed a premium on fertilizers like ammonia.

Terra originally aimed to restart the plant in July, a source said this summer at the Southwestern Fertilizer Conference in San Antonio, but a series of maintenance delays pushed the restart back.

Hurricanes Gustav and Ike then ravaged the US Gulf coast, disrupting electricity and natural gas infrastructure in the area and further delaying the restart.
