Tuticorin soda ash restart delayed to end 2008

SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--The restart of Indian soda ash maker Tuticorin Alkali Chemicals and Fertilisers (TAC) has been pushed to the end of 2008, said a company source on Wednesday.

The start up of the Tamil Nadu facility would be "delayed by two to three months", informed the source to ICIS. However, he declined to provide further details.

TAC’s soda ash facility was shut down in May 2007 due to a lack of feedstock from its parent company Southern Petrochemical Industries Corp (SPIC).

Numerous delays in restarting the plant happened after last year's shutdown.

TAC’s plant has an annual production capacity of 110,000 tonne/year of soda ash and 105,000 tonne/year of ammonium chloride.

Other major producers of soda ash in India include Tata Chemicals and Gujarat Heavy Chemicals.
