CPDC plans CO2 unit, acetic acid expansion

TAIPEI (CNI)--China Petrochemical Development Corp (CPDC) plans to build a carbon dioxide (CO2) facility and to double the capacity of its 100 000 tonne/year acetic acid unit at Ta-sheh, CNI learned Monday.

CPDC general manager Wang Ching-an said his company is studying the feasibility of revamping its acetic acid technology to raise the economic value of the Ta-sheh plant.

Having its own CO2 facility will help ease CPDC's dependence on state-owned Chinese Petroleum Corp for its gas needs, Wang added.

CPDC is expected to decide on the investments when it completes the feasibility studies, possibly by end-1999.
