China's Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical restarts MEG unit

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Chinaís Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical plans to restart its 220,000 tonne/year monoethylene glycol (MEG) unit at Jinshan in Shanghai in the late afternoon of 20 June, a company source said on Thursday.

The MEG unit was shut down on 8 May for technical modifications that will allow it switch production to ethylene oxide (EO), the source added.

The producerís other 380,000 tonne/year MEG unit at the same site is currently running at full capacity, the source said.

Meanwhile, Sinopec Wuhan Co will start up its new 280,000 tonne/year MEG unit in Hubei province in early July, in line with the start-up of its new naphtha cracker, the source said.
