Mitsubishi Chemical to license oxo alcohol technology in Qatar

TOKYO (ICIS)--Japanese chemical producer Mitsubishi Chemical has reached a mutual agreement with Qatar Petroleum and Shell Chemicals to license its production technology of oxo alcohols at the new petrochemical project in Qatar, the company said on Wednesday.

As part of the ongoing Al-Karaana Petrochemicals Project, Qatar Petroleum and Shell Chemicals will build a unit to produce 250,000 tonnes/year of oxo alcohols using Mitsubishi Chemicalsí Oxo-T Process, according to Mitsubishi Chemical.

The Al-Karaana Petrochemicals Complex, which has yet to be built in Ras Laffan Industrial City, will also include a naphtha cracker, mono-ethylene glycol and linear alpha-olefins plants, and they will utilize feedstocks derived from natural gas, Mitsubishi Chemical said.

The Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) contract is expected to be awarded in 2013, according to Mitsubishi Chemical.
