US EG production down 19% year over year: AFPM

NEW YORK (ICIS)--US production of monoethylene glycol (MEG), or ethylene glycol (EG), was down almost 19% year over year in the second quarter of 2013, according to data made available in a survey by American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) on Wednesday.
US EG production fell to 547m lbs (248,000 tonnes) in Q2 2013 from 675m lbs the year prior, the AFPM said.
Quarter over quarter, EG production rose almost 16% from 472m lbs in the first quarter of the 2013.
Year to date, production has decreased nearly 26% to 1.02bn lbs in the first half of 2013 from 1.37bn in H1 2012, the group said.
Major EG plants were down during the first and second quarters of this year for planned turnarounds.
AFPM’s quarterly data is based on voluntary reports.
Participating in the Q2 2013 survey were Dow Chemical, Eastman Chemical, Formosa Plastics, Huntsman and Shell.
