US EO production decreased 10% year over year in Q2: AFPM

NEW YORK (ICIS)--US production of ethylene oxide (EO) in the second quarter of 2013 fell more than 10% year over year, according to data made available in a survey by American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) on Wednesday.
EO production in Q2 2013 was 1.37bn lbs (621,000 tonnes), compared with 1.53bn lbs in Q2 2012, the AFPM said.
Quarter over quarter, EO production increased 9.6% from 1.25bn lbs in Q1 2013.
On a year-to-date basis, EO production was down more than 15% year over year to 2.62bn lbs in the first half of 2013 from 3.09bn lbs in H1 2012.
Major EO plants were down during the first and second quarters of this year for planned turnarounds.
AFPM’s quarterly data is based on voluntary reports.
Participating in the Q2 2013 survey were BASF, Dow Chemical, DuPont, Eastman Chemical, Formosa Plastics, Huntsman, LyondellBasell and Shell.
