Europe ABS June prices settle at rollover to €20/tonne up

ICIS News : 21-Jun-13 23:59

LONDON (ICIS)--European acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) June domestic prices have settled at a rollover to an increase of €20/tonne, buyers and sellers confirmed on Friday.

Compounding grade (natural) was assessed at €2,195-2,205/tonne FD ($2,888-2,901/tonne) (free delivered) NWE (northwest Europe), injection moulding (natural) at €2,285-2,310/tonne FD NWE and extrusion grade (natural) at €2,210-2,310/tonne FD NWE, according to ICIS.

Producers took advantage of relatively small increases in feedstock styrene and acrylonitrile (ACN) costs and passed on an increase of €20/tonne to some ABS buyers.

However, customers who were already on slightly higher prices achieved rollovers from producers.

“[June domestic price negotiations] finished more strongly because of good demand,” a producer said, adding that it had managed to increase June prices for almost all its customers.

On the buy side, demand was seen as stable.

“[We have] good demand,” a buyer said, adding: “there was no decrease [in demand]. [We were] fearing a decrease [because of the approaching summer holiday period in July] but didn't see it.”

A second producer, who had to give rollovers to some of its customers who were already on higher prices said: “demand is stable, not bad, not great either”.

ABS has a variety of uses in the automotive, construction and household goods markets amongst others.
