Mexico-based Mexichem declares force majeure on PVC production

ICIS News : 4-Jan-13 23:56

HOUSTON (ICIS)--Mexico-based Mexichem declared force majeure on its polyvinyl chloride (PVC) production in letters it sent to customers, because its principal supplier has disrupted production operations, sources in Latin America said on Friday.

Regional participants noted concern about the impact on PVC availability in the Americas from the force majeure that PPG Industries announced on vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) and caustic soda manufactured at its complex in Lake Charles, Louisiana, after a fire on 24 December.

PPG’s force majeure on VCM is expected to reduce Mexichem’s PVC production, but it remains unclear which of Mexichem’s plants may be affected, according to a letter obtained by ICIS.

Industry sources expect Mexichem’s production issues to be resolved before February.
