ICIS News : 4-Apr-13 09:36
TOKYO (ICIS)--Fire erupted at Tosoh Corpís 36,000 tonne/year No 3 ethyleneamines unit in Nanyo, Japan late on Wednesday, shutting down plant operations, the company said on Thursday.
The fire broke out at the plant at 21:17 Japan time (15:17 GMT) on 3 April and was extinguished in less than an hour, the company said in a statement.
Tosoh Corpís No 1 and No 2 ethyleneamine plants at the site that have a combined capacity of 53,000 tonnes/year were not affected and were operating normally on Thursday afternoon, a company official said over the phone.
No restart date was set for the No 3 ethyleneamines plant.
Tosoh may be required to suspend operation at the two other unaffected plants as the local fire department and police begin investigations on the cause of the fire, the company official said.
The construction of the No 3 ethyleneamines plant with an initial capacity of 26,000 tonnes/year was completed in March 2010. The plant's capacity was expanded by 10,000 tonnes/year in December 2011, Tosoh Corp said.
