US December PP exports fall by 15% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US exports of polypropylene (PP) for December were down by 15% from the same month in 2011, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Monday.
US PP exports fell to 87,451 tonnes in December 2012 from 103,488 tonnes in 2011.
Mexico, Canada and China were the top destinations for US PP exports, together representing 81% of the total volumes exported. Exports to Canada and Mexico fell, while exports to China increased.
For the full 2012 year, US PP exports fell by 9.3% to 1,083,800 tonnes in 2012 from 1,195,139 tonnes in 2011.
US PP imports decreased by 26% in December to 6,137 tonnes, down from 8,297 tonnes in 2011.
Canada, Korea and Mexico were responsible for the most PP imported into the US, together, representing 56% of the total volumes imported. Imports from all three countries fell slightly between 2011 and 2012.
For the full 2012 year, US PP imports rose by 2.4% to 107,398 tonnes from 104,910 tonnes in 2011.
Major North American PP producers include LyondellBasell, ExxonMobil, INEOS, Total, Formosa Plastics, Braskem Americas, Pinnacle Polymers, Phillips 66 and Flint Hills Resources.
