Japan's plastic feedstocks production rises 2.7% in Dec 2012

TOKYO (ICIS)--Japanís production of plastic feedstocks increased by 2.7% year on year to 848,000 tonnes in December 2012, official industry figures showed on Tuesday.
Among the total, production of polyethylene (PE) rose by 12% to 237,909 tonnes from the same month a year earlier, according to the Japan Plastics Industry Federation (JPIF).
Output of polypropylene (PP) stood at 202,712 tonnes, a 1.8% decrease from the previous year, while production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) was up by 3.8% year on year to 117,695 tonnes, the data showed.
Japanís output of plastic products rose by 1.9% to 461,000 tonnes in December 2012 from December 2011, according to the JPIF data.
Among the total, production of film and sheet increased by 7.6% year on year to 204,051 tonnes, while the output of machine parts declined by 7.8% to 52,392 tonnes, based on the data.
Production of pipes stood at 39,695 tonnes, a 14% increase from the year-before period, according to the association.
