Japan's 2012 LDPE, PP, PS exports fall from 2011, HDPE increases

TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan exported a total of 174,647 tonnes of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) in 2012, an 8% decrease from the previous year, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) said on Friday.

The country domestically shipped 1.28m tonnes of LDPE in 2012, a 4% decrease from 2011, according to the official data.

Among the total, 618,618 tonnes were used for film, down by 5% from the year earlier, according to the METI.

The countryís exports of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), meanwhile, increased by 37% year on year to 174,551 tonnes from January-December 2012, while domestic shipments fell by 4% to 759,456 tonnes, the data showed.

Japanís exports of polypropylene (PP) dipped by 31% to 167,325 tonnes in 2012 from the previous year, while domestic shipments stood at 2.30m tonnes, unchanged from 2011, based on the data.

Japan exported a total of 19,057 tonnes of polystyrene (PS) in 2012, a 15% decline from the previous year, while domestic shipments were down by 4% to 621,810 tonnes, according to the METI.
