HAMBURG (ICIS)--SIBUR’s new 500,000 tonne/year polypropylene (PP) plant at Tobolsk is mechanically complete and should produce commercial volumes around the middle of 2013, a senior executive at the Russian producer said on Friday.
“We are in the process of finalising this, our largest project,” said Sergey Komyshan, management board member and managing director of the firm’s Basic Polymers Division.
The new PP plant will be the biggest in Russia and consists of two 250,000 tonne/year lines.
“It is fully integrated, we have propylene on site,” said Komyshan, speaking at an ICIS/SIBUR PP seminar.
The launch of Tobolsk-Polymer is expected to allow Russia to substitute PP imports and become an exporter of PP.
Russia-based Titan group has started operating a new 180,000 tonne/year PP plant, the company said in a statement earlier this month.
The plant, under the name PolyOm, has produced its first tonnes of PP.
