US January PP exports fall by 12% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US exports of polypropylene (PP) for January were down by 12% from the same month in 2012, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Friday.
US PP exports fell to 81,620 tonnes in January 2013 from 93,216 tonnes in 2012.
Mexico, Canada and China were the top destinations for US PP exports, together representing 81% of the total volumes exported. Exports to Canada and Mexico fell, while exports to China increased.
US PP imports rose by 14% in January to 10,446 tonnes, up from 9,178 tonnes in 2012.
Canada, Korea and Mexico were responsible for the most PP imported into the US, together, representing 55% of the total volumes imported. Imports from Canada and Mexico decreased, while imports from Korea increased.
Major North American PP producers include LyondellBasell, ExxonMobil, INEOS, Total, Formosa Plastics, Braskem Americas, Pinnacle Polymers, Phillips 66 and Flint Hills Resources.
