European market review by Caroline Howard, ICIS pricing

The European dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) contract prices mimicked the movements of upstream monthly paraxylene (PX) and quarterly methanol.

August saw an increase of €20/tonne to €769-810/tonne FD (free delivered) NWE (northwest Europe), as PX jumped by €32/tonne to €760/tonne. September saw no change for either product.

By October, however, monthly PX fell by €145/tonne to €615/tonne while fourth-quarter methanol jumped up €60/tonne to €223/tonne FOB (free on board) Rotterdam. These developments caused a decrease of €113/tonne on DMT prices.
