Arch Chemicals is a biocides company and is split into two business segments: Treatment Products and Performance Products. It is headquartered in Norwalk, Connecticut, US and has around $1.5bn in sales (2008) and approximately 3,000 employees. Its manufacturing and customer-support facilities are based in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa.
History
Arch Chemicals was spun off from its parent, Olin Corporation, in February 1999.
Company movements
In September 2008, Arch Chemicals acquired water treatment chemicals business Advantis Technologies from Rockwood Holdings for $130m (€91m).
Its biocides portfolio includes four businesses within its core Treatment Products business segment.
Treatment Products
Water Products
Arch Chemicals manufactures and sells chemicals and distributes equipment on a worldwide basis for the sanitation and recreational use of residential and commercial pool and spa water, and the purification of potable water and the treatment of water used in commercial and industrial applications.
Wood Protection
Its advanced preservatives protect wood from, among other things, fungal decay and insect damage.
Industrial Biocides and Health and Hygiene Products
Its biocides are incorporated into industrial, commercial and consumer products to provide protection against fungus, bacteria, viruses, algae and other harmful microbes. For instance, Arch supplies biocides for use in paints and other building products to deter the growth of mould and mildew.
Personal Care Products
Its biotechnological active ingredients, botanicals, preservatives and other cosmetic ingredients are used in hair and skin care products. Arch's zinc Omadine, for example, is said to be a popular active antidandruff shampoo agent.
Performance Products
Arch Chemicals' Performance Products business consists of the performance urethanes and hydrazine businesses. The performance chemicals sold by the company enhance the performance and value of the customer's end use products. Arch Chemicals says its performance chemicals business is characterised by technology driven product solutions that benefit specific customers and provide manufacturing flexibility.
