Ciba Specialty Chemicals develops, produces and sells speciality chemicals worldwide. It serves a number of major markets such as the paper, plastics, printing, packaging, lubricants and automotive industries. The company currently comprises of three business segments - Plastic Additives, Coating Effects, and Water and Paper Treatment. Ciba

 

Innovation will remain a key focus for future profitable growth. Ciba will invest SF260-270m/year in R&D. The company will strive for organic growth and support its positions by adding complementary technology through small or mid-sized bolt-on acquisitions.

 

The company will further consolidate its existing resources and introduce six cross-company research centres to focus on Ciba’s core technologies: protection and stabilisation, colour, solid/liquid separation, paper strength and coating, interphase and rheology, and polymerisation and curing agents.

 

Ciba has around 13,000 employees with headquarters in Basel, Switzerland. In 2008, the company generated sales of SF5.9bn and invested SF230m in R&D.

 

On 9 April 2009, BASF acquired Ciba.
