Eastman is a global chemical company with a broad portfolio of manufacturing technologies and chemical, plastic and fibre products. Eastman is structured into two business groups: Chemicals and Fibres which includes performance chemicals, intermediate fibres, coatings, adhesives and specialty polymers and inks; and Polyesters including specialty plastics.
A strategic plan for the company is to strengthen its polyethylene terephthalate (PET)product lines. It has built a 350,000 tonnes/year PET manufacturing facility based on its IntegRex technology. It is rationalising 350,000 tonnes/year of its higher-cost PET capacity at its South Carolina, US facility and has sold facilities outside of the US.

Eastman says that it also has several projects involving coal gasification in development. The company expects over time to increase its product volume derived from gasification-based raw materials to 50% from its current 20%.
Looking ahead, Eastman says it is a “stronger, more focused and more stable” company. It believes it has a solid foundation of businesses that will provide “strong” earnings going forward.
Eastman has some 10,500 employees with headquarters in Kingsport, Tennessee, US, and had sales of $6.7bn in 2008.
