Johnson Matthey is a speciality chemicals company focused on precious metals, catalysts and fine chemicals. Its operations are organised into three divisions: Environmental Technologies; Precious Metal Products; and Fine Chemicals & Catalysts.
Johnson Matthey's strategic intent is to achieve consistent growth in its earnings by concentrating on the development of high-added value products and services in areas such as catalysis, precious metals, fine chemicals and materials technology. It will position the group in growth markets where its core skills are applicable and differentiate itself through technology.
Its catalysts division has positions in segments which it expects to expand rapidly in the next few years such as catalysts for heavy-duty diesel emissions control. The pharmaceuticals business is expected to benefit from new product launches and the company says its outlook for the next few years is "very encouraging".
Headquartered in London, UK, Johnson Matthey has operations in 30 countries and employs around 8,859 people. In its financial year ended 31 March 2009, it had revenues of £7.8bn.
