Lanxess is a global chemical supplier specialising in polymers, intermediate products and specialty chemicals. The company is structured into three segments: Performance Polymers, Advanced Intermediates and Performance Chemicals. Lanxess also has the Saltigo fine chemicals business.

The company’s strategy is to step away from lines of business that are unlikely to meet the company's expectations in terms of performance, profitability, and market opportunity within the foreseeable future. It will also include making selective acquisitions to round out its core businesses. But its strategy precludes giving serious consideration to acquisitions until it has made a success of its restructuring projects.
An ongoing mission will be to internationalise the business. Lanxess says that its direction is pointing towards the potential for profitable growth. At the moment it believes this is in China.
With headquarters in Leverkusen, Germany, Lanxess has sales of around Euro6.6bn in 2008 and employs around 14,797 people at more than 50 sites.
