LyondellBasell claims to be one of the world’s largest polymers, petrochemicals and fuels companies. Its businesses are divided into four divisions: polymers, chemicals, fuels and technology.
It is believed that the merged LyondellBasell company will have better upstream integration, linked technologies and markets. The merger provides scope for integration along the ethylene and propylene chains and brings more opportunities for upstream integration with the Lyondell owned North America refinery.
LyondellBasell says that it wants to achieve annual synergy savings of $420m by the third year following the merger and $200m of that amount in year one. It will also focus on value chain integration, operational excellence, customer and market focus and technological leadership.
Headquartered in the Netherlands, LyondellBasell in 2010 had combined annual sales of nearly $41bn and more than 14,860 employees worldwide.
