Pfizer is a healthcare company with sites in more than 150 countries around the world. It is divided into two main business segments. The first is pharmaceutical, which includes treatments for cardiovascular diseases, infectious diseases, central nervous system disorders, diabetes, arthritis, urogenital conditions and allergies, as well as the manufacture of empty soft-gelatin capsules.

 

It also manufactures products for livestock and companion animals. The second is consumer products, which includes self-medications for oral care, upper respiratory health, eye care, skin care and gastrointestinal health.

Pfizer acquires Wyeth

On 20 July 2009, Wyeth approved the merger agreement with Pfizer. 

 

In January 2009, Pfizer agreed to buy Wyeth for around $68bn (€52bn). Pfizer agreed pay $50.19 per share through a combination of cash, debt and stock. The company said it had borrowed $22.5bn from a consortium of banks to help fund the acquisition.

Pfizer Animal Health

Consumer Products

 

The consumer products segment consists of Pfizer's consumer healthcare business, a supplier of over-the-counter (OTC) medicines.

On 20 July 2009, a merger agreement between Pfizer and Wyeth was approved, under which Pfizer will acquire Wyeth in a cash-and-stock transaction.
