Roche | Company Information from ICIS

Roche is a research-based healthcare company involved in the discovery, development and manufacture of pharmaceuticals and diagnostic systems. The company claims to be a leader in in-vitro diagnostics and drugs for cancer and transplantation, virology and active in other major therapeutic areas.

Roche's major divestments over the last several years have been aimed at focusing the group's energies into its two divisions: Pharmaceuticals and Diagnostics.

Roche’s pharmaceutical division addresses “unmet” medical needs in therapeutic areas such as oncology, virology, transplantation medicine and anaemia with one of its major goals to be the leader in every area that it serves. Taking the development of anticancer drugs to a new level is one of the core missions of its global research organisation.

Roche claims to be the only diagnostics company that supplies all market segments, from research institutions right through to consumers. To maintain faster-than-average growth, it is pioneering developments in new areas that promise significant medical benefit.

Headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, Roche has around 80,080 employees in more than 150 countries and had sales of Swfr46bn in 2008.
