Sherwin-Williams is engaged in the manufacture, distribution and sale of coatings and related products to professional, industrial, commercial and retail customers in North and South America. Sherwin-Williams is broken up into four segments; Consumer, Paint Stores, Automotive Finishes, and International Coatings.
During 2007, it invested $166m in capital expenditures to increase manufacturing capacity, enhance productivity of its existing facilities and expanded its store network. Its management is continually re-evaluating the company’s operating facilities, including acquired operating facilities, against its long-term strategic goals.
The company continues with its growth strategy and has completed four “strategically important” acquisitions in India, Uruguay and Mexico.
The company is headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio and has sales of around $8bn and 30,677 employees (2008).

Sherwin-Williams was founded in 1866 by Henry Sherwin and Edward Williams. Sherwin bought a stake in the company called Truman Dunham & Co which sold painter’s pigments, linseed oil, colours, brushes and other products for furnishing and decorating.
