Syngenta is an agribusiness company providing two main types of products; seeds and crop protection. Its crop protection business includes herbicides, insecticides, fungicides and professional products. The seeds business is split into two sectors: seeds for field crops and vegetable and flower seeds.
Syngenta's long-term prospects are primarily governed by an increasingly prosperous world population that seeks more and better food, placing a clear premium on the improved agricultural productivity it can help deliver. Important factors when addressing such growth is the need to work with communities, helping to boost farm incomes and strengthen rural economies, and the need to safeguard the environment and achieve true sustainability.
The main elements of Syngenta's strategy are to enhance leadership in crop protection and field crops seeds; drive growth in its consumer led areas of professional products and vegetable and flower seeds; and create new opportunities by exploiting its plant science capabilities.
Based in Basel, Switzerland, Syngenta employs over 24,000 people and had sales of $11.6bn in 2008.
