ICIS Innovation Awards 2013 - The Judges

This year's panel of judges for the ICIS Innovation Awards consists of six leading innovation experts with a wide range of business and consulting experience.

They are looking for innovative projects that solve problems and provide solutions for companies, their customers and society at large, as well as the environment.

The judges for 2013 are:

Neil CheckerDr Neil Checker

Neil Checker is a partner at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants and part of the global chemicals leadership team, based out of the firm’s Dusseldorf office. Neil has over 30 years’ industry and consulting experience in the chemicals and process industries. He has worked internationally with major chemical companies including Akzo Nobel, BASF, Bayer, Dow Chemical, Lanxess, Reliance and SABIC amongst others on a range of strategic and operational issues.

He is also an advisor to many of the leading private equity firms that have invested in the sector including Advent, Apollo Blackstone, Carlyle, CVC and KKR.

Neil has a DPhil in Polymer Physics and is a member of the Institute of Directors.

Dr Just JanszDr Just Jansz

Just is founder and managing director of Expertise Beyond Borders, an independent technology management consultancy. He has more than 30 years’ industry experience and is a former president of the technology business at Basell and LyondellBasell. He is also an independent non-executive director at Synthomer in the UK and a member of the R&D Centre advisory board of Sipchem in Saudi Arabia.

Dr Klaas KruithofDr Klaas Kruithof

Klaas is director of research, development and innovation in AkzoNobel’s Performance Coatings business area. He joined AkzoNobel in 1984 and has held a range of (global) R&D management positions in the coatings business in various countries. He serves as a member of the Performance Coatings management team as well as a member of the companies RD&I leadership team

Gianna GirottiGianni Girotti

Gianni manages all R&D activities and business development in the new green chemistry division of Versalis. He also manages its Novara-based green chemistry R&D centre. Gianni also has experience in catalyst technology licensing at EniChem, the forerunner of Versalis.

Eric WittEric Witt

Eric is senior vice president of global strategy & business development at Nexeo Solutions, a post he has held since April 2012. From early 2011 he worked with Nexeo as a member of the field operations team at owner TPG. Prior to TPG, he held a variety of positions with Bain & Company from 2003 to 2011, and worked in the investment banking division of JPMorgan Chase from 1999 to 2001. Eric has an MBA with distinction from INSEAD (France, Singapore) and a BA in Economics from Harvard.

Dr Jacques KomornickiDr Jacques Komornicki

Dr Jacques Komornicki is innovation manager at Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council, and represents the SusChem European Technology Platform for the chemical industry. He has a PhD in chemistry and has worked for 30 years in R&D with Arkema and its predecessors.
