Marketing ethanol to the people

This is as nice a piece of marketing for ethanol as you could hope to find anywhere.

For me it only falls down when I discovered that Indy Cars have been run on a mixture of ethanol and methanol for several years. That’s because Europeans watch F1 (this involves going round complicated tracks with straights) use gas that’s pretty close to stuff that comes out of the pumps, according to Petrobras, which supplies Williams. This makes Indy car’s proposed change to 100% ethanol in the 2007 race season seem less momentous than would have been the case if they’d changed from lead gas or something primeval like that.

Let’s not talk about water use, fertiliser use or energy balances in the clip. We wouldn’t want to confuse people…. Do you think it’s a useful addition to the biofuels debate?
