Business Week big oil and biofuels

Business Week says that big oil has a downer on biofuels, and is actively trying to stop the spread of E85.

Big oil is apparently applying a range of efforts

from funding studies that bash the spread of ethanol for driving up the price of corn, and therefore some food, to not supporting E85 pumps at gas stations. The tactics infuriate a growing chorus of critics, from the usual suspects—pro-ethanol consumer groups—to the unexpected: the oil industry’s oft-time ally, the auto industry.

That’s a lot of people to be irritating.

We’re seeing the growing pains of a new industry……

If we look at any industry before it – similar groups of existing and new players in a market vie for control.

It will undoubtably go through a “middle road” with the auto industry / big oil / biofuel industry: deciding the future is fuel cell (flexi) powered vehicles using petro-biofuel blends.

This is likely to be the developing case for the next 25-35 years I think.
