I’ve come across a very good energy game

Check out this energy balance game Energyville, its pretty good for demonstrating how we need a balance of energy sources going into the future… its sponsored by Chevron, but as the brains behind it came from the Economist its probably OK.

I had good fun pretending to be a certain very large US oil company which appears to have little interest alternative in alternative energy. Hence, I picked petroleum, petroleum and more petroleum with a bit of coal chucked in for good filthy measure.
The company came out lousy in terms of sustainability, but a parallel game would be interesting to show average ROI over a 10-15 year period.
Sadly, I suspect that the particular US company I was referring to would come out on top as always, way above their greener competitors (provided, of course, their lobbying machine doesn’t break down and they are not hit with punitive legislation).

Yes it would be interesting if the input and output prices were factored in to the equation. Makes me think we could have a third game… deciding what those costs should be.

That game is stupid. They should have gotten Sid Meier to make it to give it mass appeal. That would have been a great way to get more people to think about energy.
