Argentinian companies are progressing with a process to produce biofuels from seaweed, according to ICIS news.
Argentina’s Oil Fox and Biocombustibles de Chubut have teamed up to produce and export biodiesel from seaweed, according to president Jorge Kaloustian of Oil Fox.
He added.
An undisclosed Swiss partner will bankroll the project with a $60m (€44m) investment, Kaloustian said in an interview.
"Is going to be the first biofuel of this type in the world", Kaloustian said.
Seaweed will be worth watching. Japanese researchers have been looking at the process.

I wanted to ask Simon a question and did not find a contact address on his blog so I chose this method to ask a question.
The US government (DOE?) is giving a $.54 reimbursement to manufactures of ethanol for fuels. Likewise they give a $1.01 reimbursement for the manufacture of biodiesel.
Recently, I thought I read that the same people also authorized, with the $1.01 reimbursement, the use of biodiesel for uses other than fuels, especially if it lead to renewable replacement uses of petroleum based oils.
I can't find that reference. Have you heard of this or do you know about it? If so could you please let me know.
Thank you.
