Over on climate progress they've found an interview in Wired with the head of Boeing's biofuel jet program who believes that the first biofuel for jets could be certified in three years.
That's going to be good news for people selling seedlings.... The big demand could hit in about 2015.

I cant see why algal-derived biodiesel (BD) would be different from Jatropha-derived BD. This is the main reason why Boeing says it will go for the Jatropha version.
For starters, Jatropha-derived BD production requires more land area than algal BD.
Can anyone point to specific differences in quality between Jatropha BD and algal BD?

I guess that chemically it could be a bit different, but it probably doesn't matter too much as long is its got the right kind of combustion profile...

I don't think that algae to biodiesel is ready to go yet. The yields are still only around 60% and that is in the lab, not even up to pilot plant stage yet. Jatropha to biodeisel is here now, in production.

Oops. I meant algae to jet fuel. Also Jatropha to jet fuel.
