Hurray! for Cow Power

Don’t wrinkle your nose on this news but according to Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E), two million happy dairy cows in California could make other states’ energy sector green with envy.

PG&E and BioEnergy Solutions recently started their biogas-to-pipeline injection project in Fresno County to produce renewable natural gas from animal waste.

BioEnergy said it will deliver up to 3bn cu.ft/year of renewable natural gas to PG&E.

PG&E said California’s Renewable Portfolio Standard Program requires each utility to increase its procurement of eligible renewable generating resources by one percent of load per year to achieve a 20 percent renewables goal by 2010.
