Organic cosmetic sales are up

A press release sent by Organic Monitor reported that the European Market for Natural & Organic Cosmetics is expected to break the US $2 billion barrier for the first time this year.

“High market growth rates are occurring across Europe as consumers increasingly demand ‘chemically-clean’ and ecological cosmetics. Mainstreaming is leading to new product launches in supermarkets, hypermarkets, discount stores, drugstores and department stores.”

The market share of Fairtrade-labeled products is also expected to rise, the consulting firm said, as a large number of organic and natural cosmetic companies across the globe are adopting Fairtrade practices.

In the past ten years up to 2007, global sales of fairtrade products is said to have grown seventy-fold to reach an estimated total of $3.5bn in 2007, with sales increasing by 47% in 2007 alone.

It is really heartening to know that organic cosmetics sales are growing at a huge scale. Indeed we should become aware of the harmful chemicals in the mainstream cosmetics and go organic. :-)
