It's a Barbie World

Lucy Craymer aspires to Barbie good looks...

When I was growing up I always wanted to look like my Barbie (she writes).

It was her (well-proportioned) figure and blonde hair I was after, rather than the plastic feel of her face and the nylon strength of her hair, but Bayer has developed a product line specifically to give us the latter (I suppose plastic surgery and hair dye have given us the rest).

The German pharmaceutical and chemical company is to launch polyurethane (PU) powder and four solvent-free PU dispersions specifically for use in the cosmetic industry.

The powder is said to give your skin a “pleasant silky feel” and improved bonds so it won’t rub off easily while if used in hair spray it disperse to form a “highly flexible film”. All sounds a little plastic to me but, then again, anything that makes me look a little more like Barbie can’t be all bad.
