You can forget fixing a ship on Friday 7 November, because every chemical shipbroker in Europe will be heading for Hamburg for "Eisbeinessen", a culinary feast of Eisbein (knuckle of pork boiled and served with sauerkraut) or Kassler (lightly smoked pork loin served with sauerkraut). Clearly there are no vegetarian shipbrokers. After various individual brokers' parties on the Thursday night, some 1,200 people go to the main dinner on the Friday. You can tell what kind of event it is from the menu: "all drinks on the drinks menu are free of charge up to 2.00 am." And when you're full of pork knuckle and free drinks, there's dancing to "Disco Big Pig."
