The windmills and wind turbines of Kent

chillenden pub.jpgI was in Kent last week, the "Garden of England", the county of apple orchards, oast houses and white cliffs. Driving down into the village of Chillenden we pass a perfect white windmill standing high above the thatched roofs and ploughed fields, grappling with the icy Kent wind which locals say comes straight from the steppes.

chillenden windmill 65.jpgWhy let this fierce wind go to waste? I raise my eyes to the blue horizon with the distant view of the sea, and there stands one lone wind turbine on the skyline, the chilly winter sun shining off its epoxy resin rotor blades lifted high to the sky.

According to an article on the Borealis website, the demand for wind turbines will be the saviour of the global phenolics industry.

Click here for more gorgeous artistic shots of petrochemical-consuming wind turbines in the sea off the trendy Kent seaside town of Whitstable, where the Blog once lived in pre-turbine days.

Kent has a history of using wind power and I guess the new turbines are part of that. More power to the wind I say
