Complaints about BP being allowed to sponsor the arts seem to have disappeared in an oily haze. In fact the whole subject has gone dead.
It's another win-win arts sponsorship deal for BP and Tate Britain's current "Romantics" exhibition. BP gets the exposure as a philanthropical organisation, and London gets a world-class nine-room display including Turner, Constable and Blake.
September has seen Crude Oil Painting Protest re BP sponsorship at Tate Modern Turbine Hall - see video and release here http://bit.ly/ccCABF - this one is not going dead at all.
I wonder how many cleaners and how much chemical solvent it took to clean up the mess in the Tate.
The climax of this piece does not evoke BP's errors so much as the self-satisfaction of political artists.
Presumably the exhibition is only oil paintings?
