Our hearts go out to the people of Japan. The scale of suffering and loss is unimaginable.
Our colleagues in the ICIS Singapore office have been in touch with their Japanese petchem sources, and have put together a complete summary of the petchem closures after the earthquake.
One editor told me: "The sources are at work and didn't mind answering questions, except that we have to talk quickly ....but they are very professional, quite detailed in explaining about the plant situation. For people who are reachable in the office, they are prepared to work as usual, but not a good idea to call on their mobile, so I refrain ... but it is rather stressful because we feel bad about having talk about biz when obviously there're more important things at stake over there."
They also reached the Japan Petrochemical Association (JPCA) who confirmed that the APIC 2011 conference in Fukuoka in May would go ahead as planned.
