Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene US Transcript
ICIS report for US Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene, or ABS, covers domestic prices for medium and high grade injection material and medium and high grade extrusion material.
Domestic prices are set by contract negotiations between producers, sellers, distributors, and buyers, taking into account that discounts generally offered depending on the order size.
There are no predetermined contract settlement dates and the ICIS report reflects the fluidity of price movements which often respond to feed stock prices.
The US assessed prices are gathered by talking to major North American producers, distributors and buyers and inputting the data into the report. The report is essential to our customers as it offers subscribers the most recent and detailed information in the ABS market, price increase nominations or decreases and supply and demand patterns.

US acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) prices for freely negotiated business in the fourth quarter were weighed down by lower raw material costs and low-priced imports.
Feedstock prices had stabilised and fallen a bit, allowing producers to pass through some of those cost reductions to their customers in October.
Meanwhile, weak economic conditions in Asia, a major end-use market for ABS, continued to depress prices there, resulting in very low offers for imports into the US. Domestic suppliers had to be very agressive in pricing in order to keep their share of the market, especially with the approach of the typical lull in December.
For the most part, overall demand was generally good-to-steady, despite the traditional slowdown that typically occurs toward the end of the year. Still, sources said they are expecting to see some very low spot pricing as a result of market participants unloading inventory and selling as much material as possible before the end of the year for tax purposes.
