Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene US Transcript
ICIS report for US Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene, or ABS, covers domestic prices for medium and high grade injection material and medium and high grade extrusion material.
Domestic prices are set by contract negotiations between producers, sellers, distributors, and buyers, taking into account that discounts generally offered depending on the order size.
There are no predetermined contract settlement dates and the ICIS report reflects the fluidity of price movements which often respond to feed stock prices.
The US assessed prices are gathered by talking to major North American producers, distributors and buyers and inputting the data into the report. The report is essential to our customers as it offers subscribers the most recent and detailed information in the ABS market, price increase nominations or decreases and supply and demand patterns.

Updated to Q3 2016
The US acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) market was characterised by stable pricing and high inventories during Q3. Prices in the freely negotiated contract market did not change during the quarter. However, market participants that utilise cost-plus pricing, which are determined by raw materials prices, saw prices rise slightly during the quarter.
The US is a net importer of ABS - largely from Asia. Imports from Asia during the first seven months of 2016 were up by 8% year on year. However, imports from South Korea - by far the largest ABS supplier to the US market, were up by 22% year to date in July.
Producer SABIC in August informed customers that it was moving to a new global enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. As a result, the producer will not ship ABS between 21 September and 10 October.
It was unclear what impact the recent bankruptcy of South Korea's largest shipping line, Hanjin Shipping Company, would have on the market. One distributor said that it was seeing some delivery delays at the ports as a result of the Hanjin situation.
