Domestic petroleum benzene prices rose in April, but stayed in a downtrend in May and 1H June. Because the supply of stock become tight and downstream demand increased in 2H June, domestic petroleum benzene prices stayed stable and then rose a little.
Market players were optimistic about the price outlook in view of the firm crude oil in April, benzene price rose, but demand of downstream product in May cannot support the price increasing. In June, downstream demand remained soft, and benzene list prices of Sinopec was cut again, traders unwilling to sold benzene at lower price than their cost, stock supply was tight. Meanwhile, crude oil price rose, pushing up benzene price sin Europe, US and Asia, domestic price become firm in the second half of June.
Sinopec raised benzene list prices in 1 May by CNY200/tonne, and cut benzene list prices two times respectively in 26 May and 12 June, CNY200/tonne each time.By the end of the second quarter, the east China benzene market closed at CNY5,000-5,100/tonne (ex-tank Zhangjiagang), CNY50 higher in the high end from end March.
