Updated to Q2 2016
European butac prices have been held flat for nearly all of the second quarter despite producer Celanese dropping out of the market at the start of the quarter. All its contacts were transferred to producer INEOS. Market participants reported the market to be long and the plentiful supply of material appears to have prevented any price hikes. Producers have attempted to raise butac prices in line with propylene increases but were unable to achieve this. Demand was unexpectedly low for this time of year and has contributed to the muted price. In the last week of the quarter there were reports of demand beginning to climb to expected levels.
